João had already been surfing for two years when, at the age of 10, he began training with a highcompetition group. As a junior, he collected all the important titles in Portugal.

He also had good results in the World Surf League and as a member of the Portuguese surf team.

Today, he continues to participate in competitions like the Liga Meo, but his relationship with surfing is no longer so focused on competition. The waves are valuable in themselves – and also as a pretext to discover places, cultures, people. And then, to tell a story.
